The blog muscle didn't want to flex this morning, so here's an entire chapter from one of my Talbot's Peak WIPs. If you squint between the lines, you might pick up some writing tips, so it still qualifies as a blog.

The gist: Out-of-work journalist Chloe Stevens comes to Talbot's Peak, Montana to write a romance novel. Because she's fixated on vampires, she doesn't realize Talbot's Peak is a shapeshifter settlement. She doesn't even catch on that the two guys she's with are wolf shifters. Hey, Lois Lane was an award-winning ace reporter, and she never figured out Clark Kent was Superman. Tunnel vision will do that to you.

Pietro twirled her across the dance floor. The music belonged to another century, yet somehow her feet knew the steps. She wanted to believe it was instinct, and not the horrible possibility Leonid Krasski had revealed to her. She would not accept it, although all the evidence pointed to the inevitable.

I’m not the reincarnation of his long-dead wife. I can’t be!

Tuesday night mews, ethereally lovely Felines... snow is blanketing the tame prairie... probably around six inches now... it's been snowing off and on throughout the day... the Kougaress trekked down to her mailbox through the white stuff, and managed to slip on the ice underneath and fall once, then fall again on another slippery patch... the good news is she fell softly both times... yeah, reflexes are a good thing... anyhoo, looks like the bitter cold is moving in also. YUCK! And double yuck!

Flash and Kiss of the White Stallion

Happy Year of the Horse, shapeshifter lovers.

Time to gallop fast toward your goals while watching out for the predator types. As anyone who reads my flash scenes regularly, or my erotic romances, you will know I adore horses.

I've been so busy dealing with weather and other life stuff today that I haven't had time to write a new scene, so you're getting a 700 word flash I wrote several years ago in 100 word sections. However, I recently added three more sections for the month-long FIRST KISS event being held at Karen Nutt's blog ~kmnbooks.blogspot.com~.

Yep, two of my absolute favorites: horses and kissing. Since the entire flash wasn't presented at the event, here it is just for you. Hope you enjoy.

Flash of the White Stallion

I

The magnificent white stallion stood atop a rugged high rise of ground, appearing to mock my efforts to gaze upon him more closely. I didn’t mind. His beauty transfixed me, especially the way his coat, and long waving tail, gleamed beneath the early afternoon sun. He seemed almost magical, as if he’d escaped from a fairytale. I soared inside, all sensation of my body’s weight lost. And I became wonderfully torn between the desire to observe his freedom, and the restless urge to ride him. What would he feel like beneath me? As he ran like the wind.

Monday night mews, ferocious and fine-looking Felines... another thin layer of ice made part of the Kougar's backyard into a skating rink today... later, it was sun-bright melty but not near enough to get rid of the ice or melt the lovely icicles... last night there was a gorgeous crescent moon after a spectacularly colorful sunset... looks like snowstorms could be moving through, though.

A Little Something for the Ladies

Maureen kept her foot on the van’s gas pedal and her gaze firmly fixed to the dark, twisty road. Her own personal road ran a lot more straightforward. She’d come a long ways on it, made the last big turnoff, and had her final destination in sight. No way would she veer off now.

The only pothole was the man strapped onto the seat beside her. More specifically, the attractive, and very naked, werewolf who’d had a chance to rip out her throat but hadn’t done it.

Noshing With Phil and Charlie

Gill looked at the kabobs lining the top of the grill closest to him.  His mouth watered.  Fresh chunks of rhubarb, yams, potatoes, various squashes, combined with peppers of vibrant hues and chunks of tomatoes and other local plants cover the skewers.  Aromatic spices filled the air as Phil’s wife Lillian based each skewer with homemade butter.  Center of the table sat a huge bowl containing a variety of greens and seeds as well as cooked and cold beans mixed with chunks of cured cheeses.

Nighttime mews, courageous and cute KitKats... gosh what a wacky-busy day for this Big Cat... overcast, cold, and some very light ice rain on the tame prairie... but, hey, at least, the Kougaress got her drive cleared of branches, and almost froze some of her fingers too much... but she has a natural cream with cayenne in it, and that sure works! to warm up your fingers fast... cayenne has been known to cure bad cases of frostbite... so keep that info in your big ole brains.

Reetha shut the door to her room at the Talbot’s Peal Inn just as a peel of frustration rent the air from the manager’s young daughter.  Her older brothers had once again taken her doll and were threatening to Hari-kari it at dawn.  The stuffed toys possible death was too much for the little one to take and she was resorting to mom to save her friend and someone named Hawk to peck out her brother’s eyes.

Here she thought her family was weird.

The new Moon on January 30 at 11:20 pm PST (but listed as January 31 in many calendars) begins the year of the Wood Horse. Chinese New Year is a spring festival that begins on the second new Moon after Winter Solstice, with the Sun and Moon in Aquarius. Happy Year of the Green Wooden Horse! And evening mews, deliciously enthusiastic Felines... so, yeah, the temps were milder today on the tame prairie... and the Kougaress planned on cleaning up some of the tree limbs that were blown onto her long drive... however, the winds were blustery, cold, and there was this nasty pollen stuff that instantly congested her lungs... so, that didn't get accomplished... ~sighs~

Gosh ~happening right now~ this Big Cat is really tired of hearing all the strange aircraft that fly overhead, and sound nothing like regular planes, jets or helicopters... not to mention they can't usually be seen despite the fact that they sound like they're directly overhead... darn yowl it!

Anyhoo, darling kittens, enjoy the spirited Year of the Horse. Keep galloping forward and remember! This Big Cat loves ya!
