Late night mews, March-majestic Big Cats... brisker on the tame prairie with temps dropping to freezing tonight... and the Kougaress noticed her little peach tree, raised from a peach seed, is budding out... she hopes the buds don't freeze off... boy oh boy, does life throw you unexpected curve balls... this Big Cat had allowed a tree to start growing next to her mailbox... well, with the drought two summers ago, the tree died... however, it was helping to protect her mailbox from being wacked off its stand... which has been a problem over the years... well, this tree was cut-chopped up, along with the fir trees edging the easement, being wacked back by some huge machine... the Kougaress assumes it was the county... anyhoo, and distressed mews, it looked like a carnage scene, and now this Big Cat has to figure out a way to protect the mailbox again... she has T-fence posts on the other side... but doesn't have any on hand right now... whatever... and, yeah, does everything feel precarious right now? to you?

ALSO... Periodically over the years since this Big Cat has been living on the tame prairie she's witnessed three military cargo planes [by their looks] and sometimes a helicopter, flying southeast, and low to the ground... just now, at about two o'clock in the afternoon, the Kougar heard this fast, almost jet-whir sound, and she looked out her north-facing window... she watched three of these cargo planes fly by, over the north side of her house... mygosh!... they had to be only about five hundred feet off the ground, which is freaky feeling unto itself... the Kougaress is assuming they're flying below radar... however, wouldn't they be tracked by satellite tech? And who knows whatever else black-surveillance tech?... anyhoo, it's a weird scary sight... no helicopter this time... but what the HECK is going on... about a week or so ago, maybe two, on her trek back from the mailbox, the Kougaress saw a military-type helicopter flying low, but headed straight east... hey, why all these below-radar flights? ... because this Big Cat has seen many over the years... and she has to seriously doubt it's just training missions.  UPDATE: 3:08 pm... the trailing helicopter just flew over to the south of the Kougaress's lair, but on the same trajectory as the three cargo planes.

Springtime howls and yowls, shapeshifter lovers.

So, here's another sneak peek of an 'unedited' chapter from my SHAPESHIFTER SEDUCTIONS WIP,  starring my winged horse heroine, Keina, and her more-than-human hero, Drev.  This is a Talbot's Peak scene. Anyhoo, if any of my fellow authors want to make corrections and/or suggestions, have at it.

Drev took a generous swallow of his cooling coffee, a premium blend at Java Joe's. After a glance around the coffee-shop hangout, owned by the town witch, Marissa, he buried his nose in the G&B Gazette.

The alpha-werewolf run newspaper always entertained, and Drev kept up with White Fang's front-page scoops. Beyond their patrols together protecting Talbot's Peak territory, the ace crime reporter had become a true friend.

Morning mews, March more-than-marvelous Felines... foggy-cloudy on the tame prairie... but it's still Spring temps ... so, ever have one of days or circumstances where you were cleaning up a mess, only to have worse mess happen? ... yeah, no fun... this is when the Kougaress would adore having Samantha of *Bewitched* powers... life would be so much easier in many ways... 'course, there's always a downside and challenges to any so-called power... still, cleaning could be a snap of the fingers... and since robotic maids aren't being put on the market for most of us like in the Jetsons... and, at this point, such a robo maid would be hooked into the surveillance system... so, that doesn't work either... anyhoo, when she can get outside, this Big Cat is enjoying the nature all around her... oh, and guess what! ... finally, the Windows Media Player is back on the Coast to Coast am page while using the Firefox browser... so, that's a good thing! ... however, the Apple Icon is still missing, which doesn't affect the Kougaress... so that's someone else's battle... since this Big Cat spent tons of time complaining to all parties involved... and so it goes.

Digger had fallen into the habit of gazing out his kitchen window while he waited for his morning coffee to perk. Sometimes he got lucky and spotted a gopher or a squirrel. One quick shift and bang, breakfast. Today, however, all he saw was his neighbor Lorelei, staring forlornly at the bare patch that would be his garden come spring.

What the hell, he still had a good five minutes before coffee. Digger went outside. “What up, bunny?”

Where would we be without rats and vultures? We might think we’d be a lot better off. But evidence continues to mount that working with Nature’s wildly varied cast of characters is far better for our health than making holes in the web of life by trying to wipe them out.
For instance, the African Giant Pouched Rat is proving itself invaluable for reclaiming land and saving lives. And the lowly, smelly vulture became conspicuous by its absence in India after approximately 40,000,000 of Nature’s winged garbage collection/recycling units were accidentally wiped out in a mere two decades through the introduction of a drug that was used to treat livestock.
In the absence of these foul fowl, carcasses rotted, a horrible stench rose, disease spread, and feral dogs feasted and bred – turning India into the world’s leader in rabies cases. Now livestock are being treated with a drug that is not toxic to vultures, in hopes that the grim-looking undertaker birds will make a comeback that helps restore the environmental balance.
Of course, landmine and TB detection are not natural occupations of the African Giant Pouched Rats. But now these highly trainable, long-lived creatures are on the job saving lives in Mozambique, Angola, Thailand and Cambodia.
Who could have predicted their untapped potential? Only someone who has played and raised rodents of every persuasion since childhood. Bart Weetjens is the founder of Apopo, the Belgian NGO headquartered in Tanzania whose stated mission is “training rats to save human lives by detecting land mines and tuberculosis.”
The statistics of the rodents’ success rate – posted on the Apopo web site – are awe-inspiring. They include 48,844 land mines and UXO detected and destroyed; 914,452 people freed from the threat of explosives; and 25,900 TB infections halted.
What makes rats such lifesavers for humans is their amazing sense of smell. About 1% of a rat’s genes are devoted to odor detection – as opposed to 1/1000th of human genes. Rats have a sniff rate four times that of our own. And they can distinguish between two separate odors at once. It is this stellar nasal prowess that enables them to ‘rat out’ early signs of TB in an infected person’s saliva – hours before a test can determine it – and sniff out land mines without setting them off.
Who knows what hidden talents and crucial roles other creatures might possess or play? What we do know is that respect for Nature – and for a child’s sometimes creepy hobbies – has the potential to improve our quality of life.

Once upon another Spring...

Once upon another Spring, in another time and place where the Kougaress lived...

Yowls, Happy Spring Equinox, my March-melodic Big Cat Beauties... still cool and wet on the tame prairie, but warmer temps are on the way... so, yes, Internet Hell-Landia has been happening to this Big Cat for what? ... probably two months now... yesterday, the Firefox was an absolute nightmare to try to use... the Kougaress has never experienced anything like it... in the afternoon and well into the night hours, everything was slower than molasses in winter... good gosh! ... of course, this Big Cat doesn't know if it was because of the geomagnetic storm, the cyber attacks going on, or some other tech issues... 'cause she just isn't that savvy, or in the know... whatever, she had to resort to IE, which was better in some respects, at lest in terms of speed... but not so much in other respects, like trying to listen to Revolution Radio ~freedomslips.com~ ... but whatever, it was all gawdawful, and makes the Kougares want to just give up the internet all together... anyhoo and mew, that's why there was no post last night.

So, hunker bunker down, my darling kittens, the world goes more topsy-turvy. But remember, this Big Cat loves ya!

Late night mews, March-musical yowling Pussycats... chillier on the tame prairie today... but still Spring like... and the skies were a lovely blue with little white clouds until the chemtrail appeared in late morning... there were two of them that this Big Cat observed... at this point, she's so darn sick of aerial spraying... well, no, she won't reveal her private thoughts here... they aren't too nice, to say the least... so, gosh, what a crazy-manic time attempting to accomplish all that needs to be done... yep, the quickening quickens... oh, this Big Cat saw the sliver of moon before it clouded over... and today the Kougaress felt this deep, deep gratitude for the life and beauty that is Earth.   

Take care and prepare, most darling kittens. The world appears to be rocking on a precipice. But life and love are what's important. And always remember, this Big Cat loves ya!

Almost midnight mews, March-marvelous Felines... cooler, and overcast for most of the day on the tame prairie... however the sun was ultra bright in the later afternoon and the sunset was a soft glowing pink... yesterday, the Kougaress disturbed one of the golden eagles on her trek back from the mailbox... and she saw one today, as well, flying low to the ground... oh, and some of her daffodils are blooming already... although last year, they bloomed earlier because of mild temps.

So, the problem with COAST TO COAST AM appears to be solved... the Kougaress feels a bit foolish... but really, it wasn't her fault, given she had ***no clue*** the Firefox browser was NOT SHOWING the Windows Player or the IPOD option to listen to the show... and NO ONE at Coast bothered to contact and say the Windows Player was still there... no, not one little peep!... nada, nothing! Okay, today this Big Cat decided to try Internet Explorer to find out if the player worked better... lo and behold, she discovered to her GREAT RELIEF that the Windows Player was available... she checked the Firefox Coast page again, and NO the Windows Player DID NOT SHOW... so, she emailed Coast feedback, and explained the problem, then reported it to Firefox... whatever... gosh, one lesson learned is: communication seems to be in the proverbial toilet... really, a lot of times basic communication simply does not exist in these times... not as it once was between people. 

So, darling kittens, take care and share the best of yourself. 'Cause we all need it during these times. And remember, this Big Cat loves ya!

Most of the families snowed in with them, during the double blizzards six weeks earlier, eagerly made their way to their homes.  Vernon and Miss Elly remained ensconced in the back wing of the mansion.  Something about peace and quiet for a bit longer.  Phil and his group decided that California sounded inviting and resumed their trip.

Friday night mews, March-mysterious Pussycats... so, it hardly felt like Friday the 13th at all, a good thing... although, this Big Cat has had few bad Friday the thirteenths... anyhoo, the Spring-like weather continues on the tame prairie... yay! ... although, it was mostly overcast and cooler... yes, the frog critters are still singing merrily, lustily... oh, and finally one of this Big Cat's live mouse traps worked... and she could release the mousy critter outside... so, the Kougaress is still recovering from being worn out... her life is so darn busy, she ends up pushing too hard... but so it goes for most of us in these times.

And NO, Coast to Coast am hasn't done one darn thing to help this Big Cat, despite her daily explanation-complaint emails...  Their player is still anemic and does nothing but buffer and/or say sorry, use another streaming venue... which is ridiculous given the Kougaress can use various players on other internet radio programs... so yeah, so much for being part of the coast insider family... it's all a lie, those in charge don't give one damn about subscribers, except to continue promoting their 'product'... one has to wonder how much moolah their raking in with all the advertising that goes on... gee, it ought to be enough to provide a workable player. If this Big Cat was into all the social media stuff, she'd be out there talking about her 'bad' experience with the player, and the total lack of customer service. Obviously, they don't care about loyal listeners, either, given the Kougaress has been a subscriber for at least eight years now, and has been listening to coast since the Art Bell days. Well, guess what, WHAT YOU DO TO THE LEAST OF THEM, so it shall be done to you... and that's exactly what will happen to Coast.

Late night mews, March-manic KitKats... another warm, almost too warm day on the tame prairie... but that's just fine with the Kougaress... lordy, lordy, dealing with internet and computer issues has taken its toll... plus, with all the recent changes, it takes almost twice as long to get anything accomplished online... and!!! this Big Cat still can't listen to Coast to Coast am via internet because the damn player is horrible... she right-clicked and found out it was a flash player, and she has the latest version installed, but evidently that means nothing because all it does is buffer, then say sorry, find another streaming venue... which this Big Cat would love to do, but can't because Coast doesn't have another streaming venue anymore!!! Yeah, so, the Kougaress sent a complaint email to the feedback e-dress, along with her everyday complaints to George Noory, and customer service... so far, no one has bothered replying... so much for being a coast insider... what a joke... ~snark and snarl~

Okay, darling kittens, keep on keeping on, and keep those claws and fangs at the ready, just in case. And remember, this Big Cat loves ya!

And yowls, what a frustrating day... the Kougar hasn't been able to put pen to paper, so to speak... and has been dealing with all sorts of other stuff, including competing updates, which temporarily screwed her computer up... which she managed to fix, thank goodness, using system restore... whatever, it's been a brutal tech day!

Hopefully, the Kougar will get some good writing done later on.

The flurry of snowflakes Keina flew through...

 at SHAPESHIFTER SEDUCTIONS ~

Late night mews, March-merry dashing Kitkats... still wonderfully warm on the tame prairie, and the Kougaress heard the froggie woggies singing today... she so hopes it doesn't get too cold for them... and, the sunset beautifully washed the horizon with a pink light... but gosh, this Big Cat is so worn out right now ~yawn-yawn~ ... at least, she got everything done that needed to be done... however, the Kougaress is too tired to expound on anything... and, no, the stupid Coast to Coast am player still won't work... it only buffers... and no, this Big Cat HAS NOT heard one word from customer service, even though she's been emailing for several days now... yeah, obviously, she just doesn't count as part of the co-called 'coast insider' club... but really, what does it cost them to have the Windows Media player??? ... anyone know?

So, darling kittens, keep working together, and loving each other. And remember this Big Cat loves ya!

The flurry of snowflakes Keina flew through...

March-mad howls and yowls, shapeshifter lovers.

Here's another sneak peek of an 'unedited' chapter from my SHAPESHIFTER SEDUCTIONS WIP,  starring my winged horse heroine, Keina, and her more-than-human hero, Drev. This is a transitional scene, but the Prince villain is hot-to-trot and hot on Keina's hooves.

Chapter Twenty

The flurry of snowflakes Keina flew through melted on impact with her invisibility shield. Concerned for Drev, that he'd trekked to Talbot's Peak safely with the turkeys for his family, she peeked inside his mind.

As images formed, Keina spread her wings wide, and floated downward. From the scene before her mind's eye, she figured Drev spoke with Stan the Van Man. The slender young man stood next to a large delivery vehicle. When the otter shapeshifter handed Drev a cell phone, Keina psi-knew he called his brother.

Sensing a good outcome, she focused on the rooftop of her apartment building. Covered in a deep blanket of snow, it had become unsuitable for landing. Keina snorted an inner sigh.
